Our trust Schools came together to celebrate our pupils exceptional successes
The outstanding achievements of more than 150 children and young people were celebrated last night at our London South East Academies Trust’s (LSEAT) Student Awards Evening.
The annual event brings together all the Trust’s schools, and music service, from across Bromley, Bexley, Lambeth, Surrey and East Sussex. Awards are presented to pupils to recognise wide ranging achievements – from attendance, progress and academic success, to sporting talent, resilience and community contributions.
Taking place at Fairfield Halls in Croydon, the glittering event included exceptional performances from Bexley Music, the LSEAT staff choir and Warren Road pupil, Jasmine Watkins.
This year’s celebration marked the first awards evening for pupils from Bramley Grange, Acre Wood, Manor Mead, Walton Leigh, East Sussex Academy and East Sussex Skills Academy.
Opening the event, Dr Sam Parrett CBE DL, CEO of London South East Academies Trust, said:
“The London South East Academies Trust is home to a range of schools, each one pulling in the same direction to make sure every child can flourish.
“Together we support young people from their first days in school, to college and into an apprenticeship or higher education. Together we transform lives and build futures.
“Some people call young people the anxious generation but our research shows what they need more than anything is the support of all of us all around them.
“Every pupil we recognise tonight has had setbacks, concerns, worries, but pushed on with determination. Tonight we celebrate the courage, ambition, optimism and the community that support everyone in all of our schools.”
Compèring the evening, Neil Miller, Deputy CEO of the Trust, added:
“Last year we had 13 schools sitting in this theatre – tonight it’s 19. We have grown for all the right reasons: to support children and young people to flourish.
“Tonight we are celebrating the pupils sitting in this theatre and their parents, carers and teachers. There are tough choices to make in deciding who wins these awards, there are over 3,000 students and every Trust school has to choose just eight winners. It’s a real accolade to every one of the young people who receive an award.”
London South East Academies Trust is a diverse 19-school Multi Academy Trust, with mainstream, special and alternative provision schools across Bromley, Bexley, Lambeth, Surrey and East Sussex. Here's what some of the winners and their parents had to say:
Zoya of Heron Academy, was an award winner. Asifa, her mother said,
“I’m so pleased, she’s done amazingly. I am so proud of her and all credit is due to Heron Academy.”
Woodside Academy, Emma, mother of award winning Louie, said:
“I’m a proud mum, obviously. He’s a self-taught keyboard player and much more. Woodside Academy is a great school and gives him space and opportunity to learn and develop.”
Another Woodside Academy winner was Shania, 10. Her mum, Falguni, said: “It’s amazing to see my daughter on stage receiving an award. I’m so proud of her and it’s thanks to the Woodside Academy team and the opportunities they provide.”
New Haven, East Sussex Academy, Jimmy, 15, upon receiving his award said:
“It feels great to win an award. I love everything about my school!”
Barrington Primary School, Peri, 11, was among the winners at Barrington Primary School.
“I won the Community award for holding stalls at school fairs and fundraising for the Autistic Society,” she said. “My sister has autism and I wanted to do something for her.”
Horizons
Ella, an award winner from Horizons, left the school last year for college and said:
“My teachers at Horizons really understood me. It was brilliant and I loved my time there.”
