Ofsted inspectors have rated Bromley Beacon Academy as ‘good with outstanding leadership’ following their visit to the school last month.
Part of London South East Academies Trust, the school has two sites in Bromley and Orpington. It provides specialist education for 7-18 year olds with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
In the glowing report, inspectors noted that ‘the school helps pupils to grow and flourish in their personal development’ and that ‘staff morale is exceptionally high’.
Executive head teacher, Neil Miller and his senior leadership team were praised for their ‘…commitment to equality of opportunity for pupils’ and the ‘outstanding teamwork at all levels across the two sites’ was highlighted as being a ‘key factor in the school’s rapid improvement journey.’
The report also highlights that children are kept safe and that all pupils are taught well, with ‘…every group of pupils making good progress throughout each stage’. By the end of Key Stage 4, pupils are noted to achieve a ‘good range of academic and vocational qualifications.’
Sam Parrett OBE, CEO of London & South East Education Group says:
“I am absolutely delighted that Ofsted has recognised the hard work and dedication of the staff and pupils at Bromley Beacon Academy.
“This school was at risk of closure when we took it over in 2016. With fantastic support from the Local Authority and other education providers in the area, we have been able to turn the school around quickly. This has had a hugely positive impact on young people with SEMH needs and their families - offering the high-quality specialist support that’s needed for them to achieve their full potential.
“The strength and morale of the senior leadership team has been instrumental to the success of this school. This tireless commitment is extremely commendable and will ensure that Bromley Beacon Academy continues in its trajectory of success.”
Neil Miller, Executive Headteacher of Bromley Beacon Academy:
“The team has been working hard over the past three years to offer pupils the very best education and support – and we are very pleased to have had this recognised by Ofsted.
“Our approach is focused on working collaboratively with pupils and their parents, with mental health and wellbeing support as paramount. We prepare young people for life beyond our gates, equipping them with the skills they need to gain meaningful employment and lead a fulfilling life. I am proud of all our students and the many achievements they make on a daily basis.
“Our success is very much a team effort and I am hugely grateful to every member of staff across both campuses as well as support from our other Bromley school. We will now continue our journey to become an outstanding school, offering specialist support to children who need it and ensuring they can reach their potential.”
