Thursday 14 of November, Parkwood FC hosted the ‘Special School Football Tournament’ in collaboration with Aspire Academy Bexley.

The tournament was an extension of the P.E curriculum that the children have been participating in during school time. Leanne Michell, the tournament organiser, described how impactful playing football has been for many of the children. Playing football gave them an opportunity to let off some steam and show off their football skills. At the end of the tournament, I overheard one child describe it as ‘the best day ever’ – you can’t get much better praise than that! The event was held for Key Stage 2 pupils and saw a wide range of abilities come together to enjoy a fun morning of football.

We hope that this event will translate into a regular playing opportunity for children with disabilities and special educational needs living in Southeast London.
