Andrew Macdonald, Behaviour Management Lead at Bramley Oak Academy, has won gold at the Masters Hockey World Cup with the Over-35s Men’s Team.
With 25 years of hockey experience, including 20 as a goalkeeper, Andrew is a key player for Woking Hockey Club’s men’s first team and also their Head of Goalkeeping. His dedication to the sport reached new heights this October when he flew to Cape Town, South Africa, to compete in the world-class tournament.
The journey to the World Cup was a demanding 10-month process, involving intense training camps, competing in the Home Nations Tournament in June, and juggling fitness routines alongside his professional and personal commitments.
Reflecting on his achievement, Andrew shared:
"It was an absolutely incredible experience. To earn international hockey caps has been one of my lifelong dreams, and to win a World Cup is amazing! The preparation was intense—fitness sessions, extra gym work, and a packed hockey schedule—but it was all worth it. I’m so grateful the Trust gave me the time off to be part of this journey."
Trust DCEO, Neil Miller, added:
"This amazing achievement highlights Andrew’s dedication to sport and is fantastic inspiration for pupils at Bramley Oak. It shows that with hard work and determination, great things are possible! As a Trust, we are proud to support the professional and personal growth of our staff and I'm delighted that Andrew had this opportunity."
Congratulations, Andrew, on this incredible achievement!
