Warren Road Primary School and Bromley Trust Academy have been presented with awards at Bromley’s Mental Health Lead Networking Meeting.
Both schools, which are part of London South East Academies Trust, received accolades for Best Sustainable Programme, reflecting the work they are doing to support the mental health and wellbeing of staff and pupils.
The Mental Health Lead Networking Meetings enable schools and professionals to share best practice with one another. This latest meeting focused on celebrating the efforts of the schools, by presenting a number of awards.
Warren Road Primary School enhances wellbeing through a variety of initiatives and activities for all staff. This includes ‘Fitness Fridays’ which promote physical wellbeing, staff wellbeing surveys and staff social events. These are communicated through the school WhatsApp and via a staff wellbeing board.
These initiatives have successfully created an environment where staff feel heard and valued, significantly enhancing their day-to-day wellbeing in their roles within education.
Bromley Trust Academy has taken a slightly different approach by integrating mental health awareness into learning, fostering trusting with tutors and peers.
Demonstrated through the implementation of SEMH Tutor Time, a comprehensive initiative tailored to help meet the needs of pupils.
Structured sessions run each half-term focusing on self awareness, self-worth, relationships, and problem solving. Activities include self-reflection, mindfulness practices, relationship building, and problem-solving strategies.
This is a great opportunity for the pupils to increase their confidence, emotional regulation, improve communication and relationship skills. Overall, this creates a positive school environment, which reduces disruptive behaviours, and improves overall student well-being.
Natasha Still, Therapeutic Counsellor, Senior Mental Health and Wellbeing Lead at Bromley Trust Academy said:
“Winning this award is testament to the dedication of our schools and the Trust to providing a supportive and nurturing environment for staff and pupils. It reflects our commitment to mental health, together with our innovative practices, responsive leadership, and the positive culture we have cultivated.
We are proud to share the hard work going on within our schools. This recognition demonstrates how important promoting mental health and wellbeing is to us, within and beyond our educational community.”
